Proposed Distillery At Thompsons Dock House, Belfast

Commercial & Retail

Project Name: Proposed Distillery At Thompsons Dock House, Belfast
Client: Titanic Distillers
Architect: Like Architects

Installation of a new distillery at the Titanic Pump House, Belfast. This listed building was constructed in 1898 and played its part in building many ships for Harland & Wolff, including the legend that is Titanic. The building has now been transformed into the new home for Titanic Distillers, a functional distillery and tourist experience. Historically, a 3-foot-wide perimeter walkway at ground floor level looked over an 82-foot-long x 30-foot-wide x 30-foot-deep basement to the pump machinery below. This has now been replaced with a new double-storey steel structure supporting 60 tonnes of distillery equipment. The topmost level of the distillery is at ground floor level, with remaining levels dropping into the basement below. The lowest level steel structure spans the full 30-foot width of the basement to bridge over the listed pump house equipment. The entire distillery is supported from only 12 contact points with the original building.
