Alterations at 10-16 Castle Place, Belfast

Residential

Project Name: Alterations at 10-16 Castle Place, Belfast
Client: Alterity Investments
Architect: Inside Out Architects

The listed Edwardian building at 10-16 Castle Place, Belfast has been renovated with conservation principles and minimal intervention to the fabric of the building. As with many of our projects, our best work goes unseen, which is exactly what we were aiming for.

The ground floor, once home to Mothercare, has been given a facelift and will remain a retail space. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors are now home to a series of fully furnished inner-city apartments, each full of character.

One of the apartments on the 3rd floor is a duplex, boasting a master bedroom and en-suite within the top floor rotunda. Access to the rotunda is achieved via the original enclosed timber spiral staircase. Castle Buildings is seen as one of Belfast’s finest examples of Art Nouveau architecture, with its highly ornamented green and cream facade. It was built in 1905 for C. McCullagh & Co, silk mercers, and milliners, on the site of the original 13th-century Belfast Castle.
